The Under 17 Car Club

Our philosophy promotes safe driving skills and attitudes through our continuing programme of volunteer run pre-licence driver development events.

We believe that the most effective way to enable this vulnerable group to respond to the challenges faced by novice drivers is by:

Proven Methodology

Our methods, rooted in Roadcraft, are supported by survey evidence, showing that our approach produces novice on-road drivers who, at age 17, are:

Significantly less likely to be involved in a road traffic collision;

Significantly less likely to be convicted of a motoring offence.

As you might expect from the name, the Under 17 Car Club is a Club where young people (aged between 11 and 17 years) can learn to drive motor vehicles.

The Club operates with approximately 300 Members, and accept any individual (waiting list permitting) who is tall enough to drive and has their 12th, 13th,14th or 15th birthday during the year of joining. They can stay a Member until their final year which is the year in which their 18th birthday falls. Find out more about membership here

Pathfinder Ltd

For those who fall outside of these joining age limits, please refer to our sister organisation that caters for rising 17s.

Pathfinder is a practical introduction to driving for students age 15-16 delivered through an intensive 5 day program covering both skills and attitudes. To find out more, visit the Pathfinder web site www.under17driver.co.uk.

The Under 17 Car Club Charitable Trust

The aim of the Trust is to educate young drivers and continue to reduce the risks that this vulnerable group face when they embark on driving on the public highways.

Ex Club members and former Pathfinder students generally are proven to be more risk aware and less likely to become a road traffic incident statistic. Find out more about the Under 17 Car Club Charitable Trust at www.u17ccctrust.org.

Endorsed by Leading Insurance Company

As Members obtain their full driving license, Carrot Insurance will take into account the Grade a member attained whilst in the Car Club. The higher the grade the greater the discount available. For more details, download the brochure here.
