It was started in 1976 by author Sandy Barrie who realised there was no opportunity for youngsters under seventeen to drive cars. The club still provides enthusiastic youngsters and their equally enthusiastic parents/guardians the opportunity to experience the chance of driving in a safe controlled environment. The club is run by associate volunteers who currently have or previously had members in the club. The associates assist in finding suitable venues and then take on the running of events at those venues.
These events provide the members with a structured grounding and monitored advancement of their driving skills. In addition to the many facets of good driving, associated mechanical knowledge development is undertaken to ensure the members fully appreciate the complexities and operation of the vehicles they drive.
The club environment also provides excellent social development and an opportunity for full family involvement. Many families have more than one member and the club really does provide a vibrant and fun environment for the whole family.
