The Under 17 Car Club
Our Philosophy
The Under 17 Car Club promotes safe driving skills and attitudes through our
continuing programme of voluntary pre-licence driver development events.
We believe that the most effective way to enable this vulnerable group
to respond to the challenge is by:
- Substantially increasing their awareness of the risks of on-road driving;
- Supporting them in developing risk aware driving attitudes; and
- Increasing their level of technical competence as Drivers.
Further Information
Our experience is supported by survey evidence, showing that our approach
produces novice on-road drivers who, at age 17, are: Significantly less
likely to be involved in a road traffic collision; and Significantly less
likely to be convicted of a motoring offence.
As you might expect from the name, the Under 17 Car Club is a Club
where young people (aged between 12 and 15 years)
can learn to drive motor vehicles.
The Club currently has around 300 Members, and accept any individual (waiting list permitting)
that is tall enough to drive and is between the age of 12 and 15 years during the year of joining.
This means that young people can join the Club when they are 11, provided that their 12th birthday
occurs during their first season, but once their 15th birthday has passed they are too old.
Get in touch if you are interested in joining in 2013!.
